This post from last year seems particularly relevant. Again this year, we’re deep in snow here at home in Moscow. Everything seems a production…walking the dog, bringing in wood, getting groceries. Boots and layers of clothing are necessary for a trip outside. We feel like we’re on the Tundra, with many days offering a snow globe experience, intermittently and often, all day long. In late February, we had a 2 week stretch of warm weather and we found our snowdrops blooming in the Abandoned garden. Now they’re covered with a foot of snow!
Bill and I are looking forward to Spring! The gardens we’ve planted have gone through dramatic changes as our work schedules shortened the time available for tending the garden “rooms” we began years ago. Nature seems to be reclaiming her own and sometimes has much better ideas than we had. This year, even though we’re in the peculiar position of having a February that felt like Spring, we’re experiencing a March that’s retreating like a lion. The snowdrops we enjoyed are buried under 20 inches of snow. Thankfully, the strength of the sun is beginning to evaporate the snow pack and the return of the robins, the geese and the red winged blackbirds are a promise that real Spring can’t be far behind. And the paintings inspired by our spring bulbs and pansies generate new ideas, as the earth begins to thaw, melt and rebloom. Click below for a preview from our garden!
